Over the past 35 years or so, volunteers from the Gentry County Genealogy Society and the late Mrs.Helen Henton created over 34,000 index cards with Gentry County names and sources for family research. Collected information includes births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and wedding anniversaries from a variety sources, mostly newspapers but also some extracted court records and funeral home records. These cards do not cover every vital event in every year, but loosely cover the years 1880 through the present.
These cards were kept in card cabinets at the Carnegie Public Library and have been an incredible resource for local history research; but you had to visit the library to access these cards. Local resident Nina Jean Westerfield volunteered to create a database of those cards in order to make that information more universally available; over the past three years, Mrs. Westerfield transcribed all of the information on the cards which are now available here in PDF format. We are very appreciative of all of her hard work!
